Christmas Spirit
By Joanne Centeno '21
I’m quite sure I am not the only person who really loves the Christmas Season… In fact, I would bet more people (especially kids) love this season more than any other time of the year. Each year, I look forward to December 1st. I look forward to decorating my house. I look forward to baking cookies. I also look forward to thinking about gifts I would like to buy for my friends and gifts i would like to get.
I actually also look forward to when the Giving Tree in my parish is put up and decorated. My little brother and I look for the leaves that are out to pick, so we know what gifts to buy for the less fortunate kids. We usually look for the leaves that have children the same age as we are. We than go out and buy the gifts for them. I wonder what the kids look like who open up these gifts from total strangers. I wonder if they feel the true spirit of Christmas.
As I get older I do understand the true meaning of Christmas. While I love to get all my favorite presents, I really prefer to shop for others. Giving to people I know and giving to people I don’t know is an amazing feeling. I am sure this is the true meaning of the spirit of Christmas. So Christmas time is my favorite season, but as I get older each year, the meaning of the season has become so much more to me than from when I was a little girl. Merry Christmas!

Thankful For...

Being a teenager, while at the same time having all the new responsibilities of being a Freshman, it's often very easy to overlook all the amazing things we have in our lives that sometimes we take for granted. For myself though, I am fortunate to say that I always stop and think about the amazing things and people in my live.
I truly appreciate Thanksgiving for what it is. I have a lot of good memories from past Thanksgiving celebrations. My memories are full of family, friends, and delicious food. So, it's no surprise that Thanksgiving means a lot to me. But to many teenagers, they forget what Thanksgiving really means. We should be thankful every day for all of the blessings that God has given us in life. A good way to show our good fortune, is to donate your time, energy or even money this Thanksgiving to others that are less fortunate than us.
With this being my first Thanksgiving here at Fontbonne, I loved the idea that together, with my FA, we got the opportunity to help a family in need by providing them an amazing Thanksgiving dinner. It’s important to always help people in need, and to not only do this during the Thanksgiving season, but every day of our lives.

Christmas, too soon?

If fall is here why is Christmas everywhere else? The calendar might say early November but so many stores, commercials, and ads are already getting ready to celebrate December. I my opinion, it's just not right!
Don’t get me wrong, I’m probably the biggest Christmas fan ever. But the fall is when I, along with many others are just getting used to weather that is perfect for outdoor activities. Bicycle riding and tennis are perfect for the fall since you don’t sweat as much. Pumpkin and apple picking get me ready for my Thanksgiving baking as well. Some of my favorite memories as a child is jumping up and down in the leaves.
Sure jumping up and down in the snow is fun too, but I want to savor the fall foliage, the piles of leaves, and the excitement of the season. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone, after taking down their Halloween decorations, hung pictures of beautiful autumnal leaves. Wouldn't it be nice to see more of fall before Christmas. We need to savor each moment so that each season and holiday is more greatly realized.

Freshman's First Day Reflection

At Fontbonne Hall Academy, the seniors and teachers were so kind as they welcomed our new class, and made us feel at home. They offer resources and extra help to ensure that we all strive to be our very best. The seniors, especially our senior sisters, are so considerate, and always willing to help in any way. No matter whatever the problem, big or small, they are there for you. The teachers are very welcoming, and you can always count on them for their assistance. Our FA teachers are awesome. They try to be our friends but still never let us stop growing and becoming the best we can be.
The teachers never stop working with us. No matter how much trouble you are having they are there to help. Many of the teachers are so down to earth which makes the classes a better learning environment. The teachers always try to give you the benefit of the doubt. The best part, of Fontbonne Hall Academy is the school gives you a sense of being a part of one big family.
From my old school, I came with my sister and best friend. The first day I was kind of nervous, but when I walked into FA, the students were so nice to me. I was trying to open my lock and everyone jumped in to try and help me. The best part is that we were all clueless together. I’ve made some friends that I know will always be by my side for all of high school, college, and throughout the rest of our lives. It’s true what they say Fontbonne Hall Academy is like a second home to me.
