By Nicolette Torani '19 Fontbonne’s Varsity Basketball Team had a blast during their Christmas Break in 2017. While everyone was spending their break in the snow and cold weather, the girls on varsity spent their vacation playing basketball in the sunny state of Florida.
The girls were interested in going to KSA Events Holiday Basketball Tournament in Orlando, Florida. They really wanted to go, but they had to raise money to go to the tournament. The team wasn’t going to let anything stop them. The girls sold 50/50 raffle tickets for $50 each. They sold a total of $2,000. The person that won the raffle would receive $1,000. Because of this, the team was now able to go to Florida and play in the tournament. The team left on December 27th and stayed at the Coronado Springs in Disney Resort. Every day, the girls had one game. Overall, the girls did very well. They won 2 out of the 3 games and came home to Brooklyn proud. Isabella Chirico, a member of the Fontbonne Varsity Basketball Team, said, “The experience overall was so much and it was a chance for the whole team to bond more than ever before.” Yes, the girls did have a game every day, but they had fun off the court too. Depending on how the weather was, they either went to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, or the pool. However, the last night was the best night. The girls went to Magic Kingdom at 1 a.m. and they had such an amazing time. They not only played as a team, but they also shared many memories together that trip. The girls left Florida on December 31th and had to say goodbye to Disney. The girls didn’t want to leave, but they knew it was time to head back home to Brooklyn. The tournament is certainly a trip that won’t be forgotten.
