By Kaitlyn Check '18 On Friday March 3, 2017 Fontbonne Hall Academy’s junior varsity basketball team ended the season with a victory at their championship game. The game took place in the St. Francis Preparatory School gym.
Fontbonne played against Monsignor McClancy Memorial High School. The final score was 51-47 in favor of Fontbonne. The game was an extremely close call at half time, Fontbonne was only up by one point. Fontbonne really had to step it up now if they wanted to win. "At the start of the second half we came out hard and got ourselves a 12 point lead. The whole team played with crazy energy.” said junior Shannon Greene. However the rest of the game didn’t show clear skies for Fontbonne. In the fourth quarter McClancy came back and caught up after scoring two three-point shots. Fontbonne hit their free throws after the other team got fouled. Fontbonne played aggressive defense and continued to break McClancy’s press. The girls felt amazing about their win on Friday after the long season they have played. All the players have worked so hard. This year were coaches Anthony Bartholomeo and Pat Nash’s last year coaching here at Fontbonne. Winning this year’s championship game was a great send off to their time coaching here at Fontbonne. The team was ecstatic about their win against this team specifically because they have been undefeated for the last four years. The girls knew that they were the team to beat. Whether the girls on the team stay on for next season or move up to varsity Fontbonne can expect them to bring the same great energy to the court that they had this year.
