On Sunday, December 9th, the Fontbonne swim team competed against St. Edmund’s High School. It was a successful meet as they won by over 20 points. This season has been filled with both losses but also successes. After losing a meet against Xaverian this season, the swim team lost the title they had for over 40 years, which is “Brooklyn Champs”. However, they have won meets against teams they have struggled with in the past, which is a major achievement for the team.
This meet definitely showed a lot of improvement from all the swimmers, especially the freshwomen who are all new to the team this year. Many of the new swimmers qualified to A Champs, which is a meet against multiple teams which takes place in Eisenhower Park.
Sophia Crawford ‘20 describes the meet against St. Edmund’s as “one of the best we had this season by far.” She said that they showed a tremendous amount of team spirit by cheering their teammates on. She loved seeing the team encourage one another to swim their best. She also added that “you can tell there was a lot of effort showing from each of the swimmers that day.”
Maya Volchok ‘20 feels that this season is on a great path. “I wasn’t sure if we would bounce back after losing the title of Brooklyn Champs, but after the last meet, I saw full potential in all of my teammates and realized it could be done,” says Maya.
The team is excited to see how the rest of the season will play out. They are eager to further improve their times and skills.
