By Zana Frluckaj '19 As of Nov. 28, 2017, Isis released several pictures of famous landmarks around the world with a threat at the bottom of the picture.
One of the most startling for Americans depicted Santa holding a bag full of bombs overlooking Times Square. It stated “We meet at Christmas in New York...soon.” This threat was bothersome to many people, including students of Fontbonne Hall Academy. Students had plans to go out to see the famous Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting, Rockettes, and other features attributed to New York during the Christmas season. Victoria Schulz, a student from Fontbonne Hall Academy stated, “I have family coming from Italy who wanted to see New York on Christmas Eve. Now that Isis is planning on attacking us, I don’t know if that will be possible. Even if it doesn’t happen, my family doesn’t want to take the risk.” Terrorism has been around since the “Reign of Terror” during the French Revolution of 1793. The roots of terror had been recorded before that, during the first century when Zealots assassinated Roman leaders in Judea. Terrorism today is a more of a threat due to the advancement of weaponry and explosives.
