By Stefanie Scotto '18 On Sunday, April 15th 2018, Fontbonne held its annual Sports Night at Saint Francis College. After preparing for several weeks, each of the four years competed with their skit, tumbling, dance, props, song, sports, and mural in hopes of reaching the overall victory.
The freshman year performed for their first time as the Fortune Teller Freshman, with a skit about being true to yourself and being kind to others. Their skit included many characters, including a group of friends who learned valuable lessons about friendship. The freshman dancers were dressed as fortune tellers and their tumblers were fortune telling cards. They also received second place in the volleyball category with 17 out of a possible 25 points. Put together, they came in fourth place overall this Sports Night. This year’s sophomores were the Outer Space Sophomores, with a skit about working together as a team to solve problems. After winning a trip to space with their teachers and having their spaceship break down, a group of students learned how fighting doesn’t make things better, and that working together could solve any problem. Their dancers were aliens on planet Mars, and their tumblers were stars in space. The sophomores came in third place for volleyball with 6 out of 25 points and second place for relay with 3 points. They came third overall in Sports Night. The Juniors Hit the Jackpot was the theme of this year’s juniors. Their skit featured characters on the Game Show Show, who later learn the value of not being greedy. The tumblers performed as Richard Simmons backup dancers doing a workout routine and the dancers were bankers at the Game Show Show. The juniors came fourth in volleyball with a score of 5 points, and won first place in Sports Night overall. The seniors performed as the Cirque Du Seniors, with their skit teaching lessons about believing in yourself and trying your best. After getting rejected from Harvard, Gina gives up on her hopes and dreams, but later learns that she can still give herself a bright future if she works hard enough. The senior tumblers were acrobats in their circus, while their dancers were clowns. The seniors placed first in volleyball and relay, with 25 and 5 points respectively. The seniors came second place overall in Sports Night. All four years did very well in the 2018 Sports Night, and everyone is looking forward to seeing what they will bring to next year’s competition.
