When Sports Night season comes every year, students from each year work together in order to get that first place trophy.
Feb. 22, 2016 was the first day for the Sports Night season to start. From then and freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior years practice for about two hours. Each year has 2-3 practices every week until Sports Night. Each year has to practice their three categories; skit, dance, and tumbling. The freshmen theme was Finding Freshmen. The sophomore theme was Sugar Rush Sophomores. The junior theme was Game of Life: Junior Edition. The senior theme was Senior Night Live.
During the Sports Night season, there are volleyball games, relay races, and a basketball shootout. The seniors took first in the volleyball. They have been undefeated for all four years they have played. The junior class took first place in their relay game. The sophomores won the basketball shootout. April 4 through 9 was Fontbonne’s Spirit Week. Each year wore their jersey and decorated the entire school. The freshmen decorated the school with sea decorations. The sophomores made the school look very “sugary.” The juniors decked out the school with a bunch of colors representing The Game of Life. The seniors had colors representing New York City.
April 10, 2016 was the day every single year has looked forward to. The day started by students coming in at 9 a.m. for the dress rehearsal. Many new faculty members experienced what Sports Night is. Ms. Nicastro, the freshmen year coordinator loved to see everyone work together. “It was nice to see freshmen who weren’t friends with each other, finally be friends! It was really fun to watch” said by Ms. Nicastro.
Ms. Sosa, the English teacher for 10th and 11th grade students said, “ I thought it was an amazing event that showed teamwork and how capable students are in terms of organizing.”
Mr. Herron and Ms. Barton are the new moderators for Sports Night. This was their first year in charge.
Mr. Herron said, “ It was a great day to see all the years together, especially the morning of dress rehearsal. I want to give credit to all the year coordinators because of all the hard work they put into it. “
The Sports Night day was a great success. The seniors, Class of 2016, took first place with a score of 201!
