by Kate Collins '18A new policy for the 2016 to 2017 school year at Fontbonne Hall Academy is having FA after first period. This change was made to allow the students participating in the new dance elective to have it first period, and for those participating the Science Research elective to come in at regular time. This is big change.
In the past, students who participated in the rigorous Fontbonne elective, Science Research, were required to arrive at school by 7:20 a.m. and work until FA began. This was difficult for many students. Since most electives are worked into the schedule, students wondered why Science Research couldn’t be worked into their schedule. Under this new policy, Science Research students begin at 8 a.m. and work until FA. “Having science research as a part of my schedule has made the program much more manageable since I can arrive to school at 8 instead of at 7:20,” said Teresa Martinelli, a Science Research student. A few students have a resource first period, meaning no class, but they are still required to come to school at regular time. Students not in the dance or Science Research elective typically have the same class first period.
