By Demetra Zougras '21 This past week, starting on Monday, February 12th, was the beginning of Fontbonne’s annual C.P.R. week. These letters stand for Courtesy, Pride, and Respect. The week is dedicated to showing appreciation to both the students and faculty.
The lollipop sale began on Monday. For Administration Appreciation Day, which was held on Tuesday, everyone was allowed to wear pink and red accessories. On Wednesday, we celebrated Ash Wednesday with prayer service. For Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day on Thursday, the theme was crazy socks and scarf day. Last but not least, Friday was Student Appreciation Day. We all had a dress down day. I hope everyone had a great week celebrating C.P.R. and will try to always show these traits throughout the year.

By Sabrina Perrone' 18 On Friday, Feb.2, 2018, Fontbonne hosted their annual Bonnie and Buddies Dance. The event took place at Garguilo’s in Coney Island, Brooklyn N.Y. and was a school fundraiser.
The Parent Association raised the money for the event by creating raffle baskets, soliciting gift for the baskets, and did 50/50. This event was organized by Gloria Musto, Effie Maldari, and the Parent Association. At the dance, there was a look alike contest to see which Bonnie and Buddy looked alike the most. “It was fun and I thought it was a cute idea for the event,” said junior, Kristina Ruggerio. Another contest was the dancing contest to see which pair where the best dancers. “The dancing contest was really fun and entertaining from Friday,” said senior, Rebecca Kaminski. Aside from the contests, whenever a Bonnie and Buddy arrived, the first thing they did was take a picture together. “I glad that I got to take a picture with my dad at the Bonnie and Buddy Dance,” said junior, Gabriella Agliata The next event that Fontbonne is preparing for next month is the Bonnie’s Bunch. By Sophia Perdernera '19 On Jan. 23, 2018, Fontbonne Hall Academy held its annual Accepted Students Night to welcome future Bonnies into the Fontbonne community.
Throughout the night, students accepted into Fontbonne had the opportunity to visit the school once again to decide if they would like to make it their home for the next four years. The girls and their families had the opportunity to speak with teachers, faculty members, and the student body to learn more about the Fontbonne community. The visit began with a speech from the principal, Ms. S, welcoming the families of the prospective students to Fontbonne. The girls were broken into groups and presented with information about Fontbonne’s traditions including Sports Night, Fontbonne Halloween, and the "12 Days of Christmas." The girls were invited to ask their group leaders, members of the Student Activities Council (SAC), any question they had about life at Fontbonne. The girls returned to their families in the gym and mingled with other prospective students, and current students. Sophia Frasca, the admissions liaison of SAC, considered the event a great success, stating “The girls in my group really seemed to enjoy their visit. Since the groups were small, the girls felt comfortable to ask any questions that they might have had about the school.” The Fontbonne community is very excited to see what the future has in store for the Class of 2022. By Grace Pappanicholaou '19 During February break, several juniors will be traveling to the Dominican Republic for a service trip with Ms. Spicijaric and Ms. Cipriano. The trip will take place from February 18 to 24. The girls will spend three nights in Sosua, one night in Samana, and two nights in Santo Domingo. The total cost of the trip is around $3,000.
Students will have the chance to study the challenges faced by people living in susceptible communities and relate it to their lives. They will examine the lives of women and children. Some of the organizations that they will interact with are MUDHA and DREAM (Dominican Republic Education And Mentoring Project). Ms. Cipriano went to the Dominican Republic to meet with representatives before the trip. She said, “On the first day of school, when a group of seniors spoke about their experience to the DR, I was floored. I sat there wishing they had the DR Student Leadership Experience when I was a student here and prayed that I would be asked to chaperone. My prayers were more than answered. When I went to the DR for training I was blown away with how incredibly selfless people can be to those who have nothing. As educated women, we can offer our experience and knowledge to others and an avenue to do so is the DR experience.” The students will be given minimal time for activities such as snorkeling, trips to the beach, a boat trip and whale watching. Breakfast will be held each morning to recap the work of prior days and discuss schedules for upcoming work. On the last day, the girls will attend a farewell dinner at a local restaurant and prepare for their departure. By Nicolette Torani '19 On Jan. 23, 2018, Fontbonne Hall Academy held their annual Accepted Students Night for the incoming Bonnies of the Class of 2022.
The event was hosted by SAC. Each girl was assigned a classroom. They presented a slideshow that displayed all Fontbonne had to offer. The girls talked about FHA clubs, the Fab Lab, athletics, and Sports Night. In each classroom, there was 20 to 25 girls. The incoming freshmen shared their names and schools they were currently attending. The girls got to know each other better. After the presentation, the girls were reunited with their parents in the gym. There, faculty and students interacted with parents and future Bonnies. Christina Bruno, a student of FHA and athletic chairperson of SAC, said, “Overall, I thought that Accepted Students Night was a complete success for Fontbonne. Not only did the accepted students get a glimpse of what FHA is like, but so did the parents. They had a taste of what it’s like to be a Bonnie.” Everyone at FHA socialized with the accepted students and answered any questions they had. They made them feel at home and inspired them to be leaders of tomorrow. FHA welcomed the Class of 2022 into their community with open arms. By Demetra Zougras '21 On Friday, February 2, 2018, Fontbonne Hall Academy had their annual Bonnies and Buddies Dinner Dance. It was held at Gargiulo’s Restaurant from seven to eleven o'clock. For just $80 per person, you received a full, four-course dinner and had the opportunity to dance the night away, being entertained by an awesome D.J. In addition to that, each Bonnie and their Buddy received a professional photo souvenir of their evening. Included in the night’s festivities were many contests which included a Bonnies and Buddies Look-Alike Contest and a Dance Contest. There also was a 50/50 raffle.
Being a freshman, this was my first event like this. My twin sister Vicki and I had an amazing and very memorable time. I’m already thinking of dance steps for next year’s dance! I was so happy to spend the evening with such amazing friends and fellow students. It was also a great opportunity for my father to get the chance to meet the fathers of my friends. Since I do have a twin, I thought it would be very cute for my dad to have two daughters dancing with him on the dance floor at the same time and it sure was! It was a memorable and fun-filled evening. |
